Friskies Party Mix Cat Treats Giveaway

From our previous blog post HERE, to reward our faithful feline familiars (or as the movie Priest suggests, it might be the other way around), we have bought them a lot of Friskies Party Mix Cat Treats. With lots of purring love, we would like to share some of these with you! We’re “treating” you with some super addictive cat treats! (Sorry, we couldn’t resist the pun.)

This is our way of thanking you for your continued friendship since the TAKK TEAM days and also as a gift for being our Facebook “likers”. Here are the contest details:

We’re giving away three (3) packs of Friskies Party Mix cat treats to three (3) lucky people. And one (1) super blessed cat owner will get a pack of treats with an additional Trader Joe’s cat food and two (2) cans of Fancy Feast (continue reading to see how you can score these awesome prizes)! Which flavor you’ll get will be largely up to chance as we will randomly distribute them to the winners.

Three winners will each get one pack of cat treats
The chosen commenter will win this "Super Prize"

  1. Like our Facebook page here. Or you can simply click “Like” on our streaming Facebook “Like Box” found at the left side of our page (there on the gadget section).
  2. Leave a comment on this blog post (see comment section at the bottom). One comment/entry per person. Comments should be any cat quote. You can make up your own but if you quote somebody else, don’t forget to include the author or the source of the saying. Ex.: When I play with my cat, who knows if I am not a pastime to her more than she is to me?  ~Michel de Montaigne
  3. That’s it!
  4. No, wait there’s more! Three (3) commenters will be randomly selected through and they will receive one (1) pack each. We will also choose one comment that we think stands out from the rest and award it with the Super Prize.
  5. Now, that’s it. Seriously. Easy, huh? Kinda like stealing candy from a baby, but errrrr… that doesn’t sound good. *Laguum Rolling On The Floor Laughing*

All “likers” of our Spicy Beautiful Facebook page are eligible to enter the contest, as long as you are currently residing in the Philippines, that is. Sorry, but we can’t afford the postage all over the world at this time.

Only entries posted at the end of this blog post will be considered as valid and will be qualified to win.

The contest starts today until Tuesday, August 16, 2011. We will announce the winners here on our Purr Day Thursday blog post – which practically will be on Thursday, August 18, 2011 – unless the world ends before that. LOL.  For those who will win, please email us at spicybeautifulblog at gmail dot com with your name and complete mailing address.

We want to thank you again for following us from TAKK TEAM to Spicy Beautiful. We are so grateful for the bond that we have shared with you and your feline minions (or masters, whichever is applicable).  Keep purring in Facebook, friends! And here on Blogger, too!

BTW, did you know that Cartoon Network has an on-going remake of the cat-themed cartoon series, ThunderCats? This is one of the highlights of our childhood days. (Hope that didn’t suggest we’re THAT old.) LOL. Here’s some then and now photos, just in case you’re wondering what we’re talking about.

BENEFIT A Little Bit BAD gal Lash Mascara: Review, Swatch, Wand Comparisons

Product Description:

"A Little Bit BAD gal Lash Mascara"
What it is:
A mini size black mascara.

What it does:
This Sephora exclusive is a little bit of BAD gal lash for the girl on the go. Even though it's little, it carries a big BAD gal punch.

What else you need to know:
Still the same BAD gal formula - lavish mascara that's sexy, sultry, pure, unadulterated black.
Size: 0.14 oz
Price: $9.00

There are a number of good things I can say about Benefit’s A Little Bit BAD gal Lash MascaraLet me start by saying that this mascara manages to curl and lengthen my short lashes.

BeneFit A Little Bit BAD gal Lash Mascara

Perhaps, the first thing to notice about this mascara is the wand. The “big, bad brush” provides volumizing advantages for fuller and richer lashes. There were instances when people would ask me if I’m wearing some sort of natural looking falsies whenever I have this on! It’s that noticeable which is a very good thing. The photo below shows 3 different mascara wands. Can you tell which one belongs to Benefit’s A Little Bit BAD gal Lash mascara? One word: humongous!

Mascara Wand comparisons (L-R) in2it Dramatic Lash Mascara, BeneFit A Little Bit BAD gal Lash Mascara, Sheer Cover Extra Length Mascara

While it sounds like this product should reach HG status by now, I will be taking a step back. I don’t know if it’s just me and my oily eyelids, but this mascara smudges on me big time (with or without an eyelid primer). You may be thinking “raccoon eyes” but I’d say “panda eyes.”

Please note that the BAD gal mascara I’m reviewing has the original formula. I think the other BAD gal mascara with waterproof formula might work for me but I will pass on that since Benefit recently launched “They’re Real!” mascara. I would probably check that one out instead.

Out and About: Café Antonio

Café Antonio has always been known as a calm oasis of excellent coffee smack in the middle of the very busy Dumaguete City life. Today, they are expanding via mixing their house coffee line with elements of Asian, Spanish and American continental meals. From a café, they have transformed into a full scale restaurant.

Most Dumaguetenians describe their ambience as “rustic” and “laid-back”. They offer a favorable Spanish-esque venue for nice conversations over their welcoming meals.

Chronicles of the Feline Foodie: Friskies Party Mix cat treats (Review & Photos)

Buying treats for our cats has always been a challenge. It’s either they would eat them and end up getting stomach upsets or they would just ignore them… completely!

It’s a different story with Friskies Party Mix treats. They would refrain from doing whatever they are into (mostly sleeping) and run towards us once they hear a quick shake from their new HG cat treat bag. All of our cats go absolutely crazy over them!

Friskies Party Mix cat treats - flavor-coated snacks

We love how this brand came up with several flavors to choose from so that the cats will not get bored from eating just one flavor. We have purchased three different flavors so far: Original Crunch, Picnic Crunch and Mixed Grill Crunch (chicken, beef & salmon flavors).

Original Crunch (chicken, liver & turkey flavors)

Mixed Grill Crunch (chicken, beef & salmon flavors)

Picnic Crunch (chicken, turkey & cheddar flavors)

The price is also easy on the budget since a bag only costs around $2.59 (60 g) at PETCO or sometimes even lower than that if they're on sale. Also, they come in resealable ziplock bags to keep the treats fresh up to the last kibble.

Resealable lid

So far, we don’t have any complaints about this product except for its limited availability here in the Philippines. Hopefully, Purina Philippines would consider including this to their current pet product line.

What cat treats do your cats love?

From the Fiery Pan: Sunny “Spiced” Up Egg

Sunny "Spiced" Up Egg

Breakfast is one of the toughest meals of the day. It’s tough because I hate waking up and getting out of bed in the mornings! But hey, one of my saving graces is the sunny side up egg. Besides a clean, spotless kitchen and a cup of freshly brewed coffee, that is.

Well, I have taken the traditional sunny side up egg and did my own “spiced up” version. Heck, it wouldn’t be in this blog if it ain’t spicy, right? *wink*

Oh, and a bit of egg-tritious trivia for all of you: Eggs have recently been found to be a rich source of antioxidants. Add that to the fact that eggs are so loaded with protein, and you’ll never go wrong with a hearty egg breakfast!

A slab of butter melting in the pan
Sprinkle with sea salt and crushed red pepper. Looks appetizingly "Red Hot"!
A pinch of black pepper never hurt anyone

Sunny “Spiced” Up Egg
·         2 Eggs
·         A slab of Butter
·         Crushed Red Pepper
·         Black Pepper
·         Sea Salt

1.       Add the slab of butter to a small frying pan over medium heat until butter has melted.
2.       Break the eggs into the frying pan.
3.       Season the eggs with crushed red pepper and sea salt to taste.
4.       Cook for as long as desired. (We want our eggs well-cooked and solid so I cooked them for about 3-5 minutes.)
5.       Add a dash of black pepper on top before serving for that extra kick. Chow down!

SHEER COVER Extra Length Mascara: Review and Swatch

Product Description:
• This mineral based, vitamin-enriched formula contains Panthenol to condition lashes while helping to prevent breakage.
• Separates and lengthens beautifully for a lush, gorgeous look.
• Available in Black/Brown.
• Size: 4ml / 0.13fl oz

Retails at: £ 8.95

Sheer Cover Extra Length Mascara
I’m not really big on mascaras because I have oily lids and I usually end up with raccoon eyes when wearing one. That kinda’ changed when I tried using Sheer Cover Extra Length Mascara sent to me as a gift from Zane’s Mom.

Black/Brown / 4ml or 0.13fl oz
I was actually surprised when I tried this on because it didn’t budge the entire day. But of course, it ran a little bit but I was able to fix it with a single, feathery light wipe from my fingertip. No makeup eraser or Wet Ones necessary.

It volumizes my lashes without being clumpy at all. It also leaves my lashes so soft after application and gives them a nice length. It separates every single, individual lash per coat which makes it natural looking. I did not experience any irritation, mainly because it’s mineral based.

Sheer Cover Extra Length Mascara - Wand
What’s not to like? Could be the price but considering that it’s such a great product, I would certainly repurchase.

PURR Day Thursday with LAGUUM: Cats and air conditioning

Turning on the AC is one of the ways in which we help our cats beat the heat during this very long summer.

Look at how Laguum loves to sleep on top of our pillow right under the AC’s vent. From the looks of it, she likes the air blowing on her too.

Kitty Siesta!

The Face Shop Baked Triple Color eyeshadow in 03 Silver Gray - with built-in mirror and sponge applicator

Ashkē messed with my makeup toolbox a while ago and accidentally tossed The Face Shop Baked Triple Color eyeshadow in 03 Silver Gray on the tiled floor. Good thing, the packaging is so sturdy and its lid is so secure, it didn’t break. I guess that’s a harsh sign that I should be reviewing this now. LOL :D

The Face Shop Baked Triple Color eyeshadow in 03 Silver Gray - in the pan  (White, Grey & Silver)

This eyeshadow trio looks absolutely gorgeous in the pan but don’t expect that this would show just as pretty when applied without a little work. The pigmentation is actually magnificent when applied wet. However, the colors appear to be super duper sheer and subtle when applied dry that they won’t show up at all unless you’re very fair and cooler toned.

The Face Shop Baked Triple Color eyeshadow in 03 Silver Gray - WET swatches

Is it just me or do you also have experiences with baked eyeshadow products that don’t go well with brushes? This little baby has that same quality that’s why I recommend that you use a sponge applicator to pick up a good amount of color to apply to your lids before turning to your brushes for blending. The staying power is good but will definitely last longer with a primer.

Overall, it’s a nice and affordable choice esp. if you’re just starting to work with baked eyeshadow products in pulling of light to heavy smokey eye looks.

Beyond the Bookshelf: Hounded by Kevin Hearne

I’ve never really tried delving into the Urban Fantasy book genre because a couple of things kinda ruined it for me. First is that it is usually tied in with the Young Adult genre and second is that most of the books in this category tend to lean towards the sappy romantic stories with vampires in it (yes, I’m looking at you Stephenie Meyer). So, all these years I’ve just stuck with my trusted Sci-Fi/Fantasy genre with the occasional adventurous foray into the fiction world. But a few months ago I stumbled into Hounded, written by new author Kevin Hearne, and it is tragically labeled as Urban Fantasy. (I saw it in one of the promotional posts by Del Rey, a publisher that I trust when it comes to Fantasy novels.) Anyway, I gave it a try and got hooked!

Atticus wielding his magical sword, Fragarach

Hounded is the first of a six-book series called The Iron Druid Chronicles. What attracted me to it initially was that it’s written by a male middle-aged comic book enthusiast. So I knew that any crappy romantic foolishness would be minimal, hence only a mild irritant (yep, still lookin’ at you Stephenie). It also features a lot of mythological lore from Celtic to Nordic, and even Christianity thrown in for good measure.

Well, what’s not to like? I won’t go into details with what the story is all about but the characters are hilarious and the retorts are so filled with irony it drips. Atticus and Oberon's antics are so sidesplittingly humorous that even our grumpy and dour cats LOL'd! The storytelling is simple but witty and the plot is fast-paced and easy to follow yet still offers a few surprises and twists. All in all, an entertaining and fun novel to read! For those of you addicted to vampires and werewolves, don’t worry! There are a few characters there that fit the bill. And some witches and a sexy barmaid too if you’re into that stuff!

Well, I’m off to read the next book in the series, Hexed, with a flagon o’ beer as Kevin Hearne is wont to do! Rula Bula!

How about you? What Urban Fantasy novel has got you hooked lately?
